Chapter 1
While there are many articles out there that will tell you that successful people wake up really early in the morning, by doing a more thorough research, we discovered that this might not be the ideal formula for everyone. Waking up early can work like a charm for some (us included) but others might find it less effective. The upside that comes with being an early bird is that we have the feeling of achieving so much more before lunchtime which empowers us through the day. However, we all have a different circadian rhythm that dictates what’s our optimal sleeping time. This rhythm, also known as the sleep/wake cycle, is a 24 hours internal clock, running in the background of the brain. Outside factors play a great role as our body responds to light/dark (daytime/ nighttime) through alertness or tiredness. This works best when you have established sleeping habits (going to sleep and waking up at the same time) and is greatly beneficial to our health and productivity. So testing out different schedules and committing to one can assure a great start of the day!
Furthermore, make sure you get enough sleep/ night (the recommended amount of sleep is at least 7 hours/night for those between 18-60 y.o.). The old trick “I’ll catch up by sleeping in on the weekends” doesn’t seem to be backed up by science. In fact, sleeping too much can also lead to side effects.
P R O T I P
If you have trouble waking up in the morning, try changing your alarm song and put your phone in the other room so you’ll have to get up to get it. Another idea is to download an app that will have you do exercises (math, games) in order to stop the alarm (one such example is Alarmy – Wake Up Alarm Clock on IOS).
